A Grade 12 pupil at Twingi Secondary School in Samfya district of Luapula Province is feared dead after the boat he was paddling capsized on lake Bangweulu.

Fredrick Chola, 25, of Mukoti village in Chief Mbulu’s area met his fate as he was on his way to school which is on the mainland of Samfya.

Confirming the accident to ZANIS in Samfya, District Administration Officer, James Mulenga, said the boat which the boy was using has since been found though the boy is still missing.

Mr Mulenga has since called on the community to team up and help the police in search of the missing boy.

The District Administrative Officer also appealed to the Government to consider monitoring the lakes and put up measures that will ensure that such deaths are prevented in districts that have water ways like Lunga and Samfya districts.

Meanwhile, Chief Mbulu has called on relevant authorities to intervene and come up with reliable water transport if deaths resulting from water are to be reduced.

The chief says it is sad that people in his chiefdom have continued to die in similar circumstances, saying there is need to find a lasting solution the problem.
