Woman pleads guilty to drug trafficking

A 46 year old woman of Garden Compound in Lusaka has pleaded guilty to trafficking in 380 grammes of marijuana and being in possession of K60 obtained from the sale of psychotropic substances.

Katina Mumba, who appeared before Lusaka Resident Magistrate Aridah Chulu today, was charged with two counts of drug trafficking.

In the first count, the accused is charged with trafficking in 380 grammes of marijuana contrary to section 6 of the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances Act chapter 96 of the
laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that in the first count, Mumba on February 18, 2014 did traffic in psychotropic substances namely 380 grammes of marijuana, a herbal product of cannabis sativa without lawful authority.

And in the second count, the accused is charged with being in possession of property obtained through trafficking in psychotropic substances contrary to section 21 of the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances Act no 96 of the laws of Zambia.

In this count, it is alleged that Mumba did possess K60 cash, property obtained through trafficking in psychotropic substances without lawful authority.

When she was asked why she was trafficking in the drugs in question, Mumba responded that she wanted to sell them out.

The matter has since been adjourned to March 3, 2014 for facts and the accused person has remained remanded in custody.
