Chinese national pleads not guilty to corruption charge

 

Solwezi, February 19th 2014,  ZANIS—-  A Chinese mining engineer at Sinozocha resources Investment Company in Mufumbwe District in North western province has pleaded not guilty to one count of corrupt practices contrary to Section 19 subsection 2 of  section 41 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act number 3 of 2012.

 

 

Appearing for plea before Solwezi magistrate Morgan Ng’ona in Solwezi yesterday was Wenjun Zhao a Chinese national.

 

 

Particulars of the offence are that on 10th July 2013 in Solwezi, Wenjun being a private person did corruptly give a sum of K200 cash gratification to Ronald Mulenga a station manager at the Solwezi Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) as an inducement or reward.

 

 

This was in order for Mulenga to free Mutanda Wisamba the driver who had been apprehended for transporting 9×210 litres of diesel in a light canter truck registration number ALF 1126 without a license for transporting dangerous goods a matter or transaction that concern RTSA a public body.

 

Wenjun denied the charge and a plea of not guilty was entered in that respect.

 

Trial has since started in the matter with the state calling three witnesses so far.
