ZICTA educates Kalingalinga residents

The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) today held a stakeholders meeting with the residents of Kalingalinga township in Lusaka on the importance of the national address and postcode project.

Kalingalinga is among the townships that the pilot project began with.

ZICTA director general Margaret Mudenda said the national addressing and postcode project in Kalingalingawas almost complete .

Mrs Mudenda however said that the exercise has not been easy to undertake as Kalingalinga has no proper housing arrangement hence giving them numbers and postcodes has been a challenge.

Mrs Mudenda said location maps would also be introduced to give accurate information on streets and house numbers to among other objectives help utility companies such as ZESCO and the Lusaka Water and Sewerage company provide better services to their customers.

Also speaking at the same meeting, ZICTA postal licensing officer Brian Mwansa said the national addressing and postcode project will be carried out country-wide .

Mr Mwansa says ZICTA has planned to complete the project by 2016.

Mr Mwansa said apart from helping postal and courier services locate physical addresses, the national address and postcode project will also make it easy for service providers such as the fire brigade, police and emergency ambulances to find the places.
