Itezhi Tezhi to attract investors

Itezhi Tezhi, Feb 14, 2014, ZANIS–Vice president Guy Scott says the construction of the 120 mega watt Itezhi-Tezhi hydro power plant will attract a big flow of investment to the district.

The vice president says this is because the area will now be electrified and hence be attractive for investment.

Dr Scott  said this in Itezhi-Tezhi district today during his tour of some projects in the area.

Dr Scott said government is committed to ensuring that all Zambians benefit from the provision of electricity.

The vice president said the increase in power generation will also boost tourism and help in the improvement of the road network.

He said the district is rich in resources such as wildlife and abundant water bodies.

Dr Scott said the tourism sector in the area must be improved in order to create jobs for the locals.

He has also cautioned traditional leaders in the area not to sell land to short term investors at the expense of the local people.

Speaking earlier central province minister Obvious Mwaliteta thanked government for the construction of the hydro power station because it has enhanced the profile of the province.

Mr Mwaliteta said the sino hydro contractor has so far employed 500 youths a development which he said has cheered the local people.

Meanwhile Mr. Mwaliteta said the district has successfully completed the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP)

He said he was also happy with the development projects taking place in all the districts of central province.

Mr Mwaliteta said government has continued to empower men and women through the various empowerment fund schemes through community development
