MMD president Nevers Mumba says Kasama Central member of Parliament (MP) Geoffrey Mwamba is not a stranger to MMD and that the former ruling party is a home for him.
On Monday, MMD lawmakers Kapembwa Simbao and Kabinga Pande welcomed Mr Mwamba at Lusaka’s Woodlands Police Station when he was summoned for interrogations as part of the supporting party.
Dr Mumba said MMD members have been supporting Mr Mwamba including when he was summoned to the police because they know that he is one of them.
Dr Mumba, a former proverbial fire and brim stone television evangelist, said yesterday that he believes Mr Mwamba is being victimised by people who do not understand democracy.
“The MMD will continue to support GBM because we know that he is being victimised. GBM is not a stranger to MMD and he is from us,” he said.
Dr Mumba said MMD members will continue to defend the former Minister of Defence whenever he is summoned to the police or anywhere.
He said the decision to join MMD if the Patriotic Front (PF) expels him from the party is in Mr Mwamba’s court.
“The decision as to whether he would want to come to MMD is his,” said.
Dr Mumba said Mr Mwamba worked hard when he was in the MMD and that the party would have no problem accepting him back.
On Tuesday, MMD vice-president Michael Kaingu said there was nothing wrong with MMD members receiving and welcoming Mr Mwamba at Woodlands Police Station.
There has been speculation that the MMD is courting Mr Mwamba and in fact that all the party members that welcomed Mr Mwamba in PF party regalia are in fact MMD members disguised as PF.
They are believed to have organised the welcome party from a house of a senior MMD official and wanted to deliberately create the impression that they were PF when in fact they were not.
Mr Mwamba has experienced a spectacular fallout after quitting the party on personal reasons without following procedure.
