A COMBINED team of security officers from Zambia and Tanzania has arrested seven Zambians and four Tanzanians at Tunduma border in that country for alleged illegal money exchange and drug trafficking.
Muchinga Province deputy commissioner of police Bonny Kapeso confirmed in an interview on Wednesday that the suspects were arrested between 10:00 hours and 11:00 hours on Tuesday in a joint operation by security officers from the two countries.
“We have arrested four Tanzanians and seven Zambians for illegal money exchange activities and drug trafficking. The 11 were cornered during a joint operation comprising security wings from the two countries. The suspects are currently in police custody until they appear in court,” Mr Kapeso said.
He named the Tanzanian suspects as Yona Mwaliso, 46, Edwin Shombe, 32, Juma Mushani, 33, and Jumane Winga,  18, while the Zambians have been identified as Mpundu Sikombe, 19, Rodin Mwape, 19 and Isaac Simfukwe, 20.
Others are Jacob Sichalwe, 21, Potipher Sichilongo, 27, Levy Sinkala, 33, and a 17-year-old boy whose names have been withheld because he is a juvenile.
Mr Kapeso said all suspects are detained at Nakonde Police Station and that they will appear in court soon.
