Dr Kasonde outlines 2013 health achievements

About five hundred and eight thousand (508, 000) people living with HIV and AIDS are currently accessing the Anti Retrial-viral Treatment (ART) countywide representing a 98 percent coverage.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Health Minister, Joseph Kasonde, says ARVs worthy K175 million were last year procured to ensure sustainable supply of the life saving drug.

Dr. Kasonde adds that essential drugs worth over K150 million were procured and this greatly improved the availability of essential drugs in all the health facilities in the country.

He further adds that about two thousand five hundred and sixty seven (2, 567) clients were last year screened for cervical cancer out of which two hundred and eight three (283) were tested positive.

Dr. Kasonde has also revealed that about one thousand seven hundred and thirty six trained health professionals were last year recruited and posted to health facilities throughout the country.

He further states that last year, thirty two District Hospitals were under construction around the country out of which three are expected to be commissioned this year and these are Lumwana, Lufwanyama and Samfya District Hospitals.
