The Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested Dennis Kanyakula, the District Commissioner for Kabompo District for two counts of Corruption related offences involving over K29, 000.00.

ACC public relations Manager Timothy Moono in a statement issued to QFM News says Mr Kanyakula, aged 41, of House Number 4792, Solwezi, has been charged with Fraudulent False Accounting Contrary to Section 356 Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr Moono says in the first count, details are that between 1st December 2012 and 31st May 2013, Mr. Kanyakula whilst as District Commissioner for Solwezi District, fraudulently accounted for K29,956.00 to the North Western Provincial Administration by submitting receipts amounting to K29,956.00 purporting that he bought goods on behalf of the Solwezi District Commissioner’s office when in fact not.

In the second count, Mr. Kanyakula has also been charged with Uttering a False Document Contrary to Section 352 Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars are that between 1st December 2012 and 31st May 2013, Mr. Kanyakula Uttered ten (10) false receipts to the North Western Province Provincial Administration.

Kanyakula has since been released on Bond and will appear in the Solwezi Subordinate Court on 17th January 2014.

Meanwhile, the Lusaka Magistrate Court has convicted Philip Siame, a former University of Zambia student for Corrupt Transactions by Private Body Contrary to Section 20(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

Mr Moono says details are that between 1st May, 2012 and 30th June, 2012, Siame, aged 25, of House Number 7876/2 Woodlands Extension, Lusaka corruptly solicited for and received K3000.00 cash gratification from Lumbwe Chiwele as an inducement or reward for him to facilitate the allocation of a bed space to Lumbwe Chiwele’s daughter Kasongo Chiwele at the University of Zambia.

The Court has since reserved sentencing to the 10th January, 2014. Philip Siame is currently remanded at Kamwala Prison.
