Chief Mumena of the Kaonde speaking people of Solwezi District in North Western province has welcomed government’s ban on the sale of customary land.

Chief Mumena says he believes in accountability in handling the sale of customary land.

Chief Mumena has told Qfm news in an interview that there is also need for both government and all stakeholders involved in the issues of land to treat each other with dignity and avoid misconceptions.

He says it is also important to look at what the scenario on the ground is rather giving blanket statements on how customary land is being handled.

Chief Mumena says in view of the fact that customary land is the only land available for the poor people in the country, measures and procedures meant to safeguard the land should be welcomed.

He however says such measures and procedures should be done objectively to meet the interests of all stakeholders.
