A MAN posing as doctor took advantage of the recent nurses’ strike at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) to swindle desperate and unsuspecting patients out of money.

The man was conducting fake treatment at the hospital where he was also collecting money from patients.
The fake doctor was, however, unlucky last week when some UTH employees noticed his dubious activities and apprehended him.
Clad in a white doctor’s ward coat and hanging what looked like a stethoscope on his neck, he was taken to Ridgeway police post where he was locked up.
Police spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda confirmed the development during the week, saying the suspect was still in custody and would appear in court soon.
Ms Chanda named the suspect as Winster Mudenda Hampongo, 35, of  Chilenje Township.
She said Hampongo was arrested on December 6 when he was masquerading as a doctor within the UTH corridors.
“At the time he was discovered he had blood samples which he collected from patients and he cheated patients that he was taking the samples to the laboratory,” Ms Chanda said.
