THE National Council for Construction (NCC) has with immediate effect, suspended all registration certificates for Yangts Jiang Enterprises Limited for alleged non-performance.

The documents will not be renewed next year until further notice.

This is in the case in which Yangts Jiang Enterprises Limited allegedly failed to meet contractual obligations towards the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) for the construction of its headquarter offices.

In a statement released in Lusaka yesterday by NCC public relations officer Chama Mwansa, the council had on many occasions engaged the contractor to resolve all outstanding defects in the building but to no avail.

“It is with this background and the numerous reminders issued to the contractor that NCC has suspended all 2013 NCC registration certificates with immediate effect.

“Further, all Yangts Jiang Enterprises Limited 2014 NCC registration certificates will not be renewed until further notice,” the statement said.

Consequently, Yiangts Jiang Enterprises Limited has been prohibited from carrying out any construction works in the country until the suspension is lifted.

NCC is a statutory body set up under the National Council for Construction Act number 13 of 2003 with the responsibility of providing for the promotion, development, training and regulation of the construction industry in Zambia.

In particular its mandate relates to regulation of public infrastructure to ensure value for money on all infrastructure development projects.

According to the statement NCC would remain committed to improving the quality of infrastructure in support of national development and it would not hesitate to revoke licences of contractors found wanting.
