The US embassy in Zambia through the Presidental Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has honoured Chief Mumena of the Kaonde speaking people of Solwezi for being an advocate of male circumcision.

Chef Mumena has been honored for his contribution towards encouraging men to access voluntary medical male circumcision and his positive role in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

US Embassy Charg’e De Affaire’s David Young said Chief Mumena was making a significant difference through his example of encouraging his subjects to actively participate in national health intervention programmes.

Mr. Young was speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday during this year’s commemoration of the International World Aids Day.

He further disclosed that PEPFAR will also honour 11 more health champions across the country for their contribution in fighting stigma and discrimination and for encouraging others to join the fight against the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Mr. Young has said the US government is happy with the political and financial commitments that the Zambian government has made in the recent years with regards to HIV/AIDS.
