Returning officer Robert Zimba has declared the PF candidate Chitalu Chilufya winner of the by-election at approximately 02:50hrs this morning after he polled in 9671 votes to beat his closest rival Albert Mwape of the Forum for Democratic Development (FDD) who has polled in 1279 votes.
Malama Kapolyo of the Movement for Multi- party Democracy (MMD) is in third place with 1103 votes while Rosemary Mwiche of the United Party for National Development (UPND), the only female who contested in the by-election,is in fourth place with 388 votes.
Charles Mwelwa of the United National Independence Party (UNIP) is the least with 152 votes.
And a total of 166 votes were rejected from the 56, 300 caste votes in the 70 polling stations of the constituency which has 88, 943 registered voters.
The Mansa Central Parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of the then area PF Member of Parliament and Information and Broadcasting services Minister Kennedy Sakeni.
