UK BUSINESS IN ZAMBIA. The High Commissioner writes: This evening I found myself answering questions from British businessmen about, among other things, the availability of the Internet in Zambia and the prospects for investment in education there.
This was at the launch of a report, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (the UK’s Foreign Ministry), on business opportunities in Zambia and Namibia. The room was packed with people who had already done business in one or other of the countries, or who hoped to do so. British Expertise, the trade body which wrote the report, hopes to be able to follow it up with a fully-fledged trade mission next year. There is now a far greater understanding than there was of the enormous business opportunities offered by Africa. Zambia, with its strong growth, is part of that. However, one or two people noted that there were many places in Africa to invest, and that Zambia needed to continue to promote investor-friendly policies in order to ensure that business came its way rather than going elsewhere (eg to Namibia!).
