The Basic Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) has expressed sadness with the high number of teachers involved in examination malpractices this year.

BETUZ Deputy Secretary General Emmanuel Zulu says the union condemns in the strongest terms engagement of teachers in examination malpractices, as the practice contributes largely to the low quality of education.

Mr. Zulu states that it is unfortunate that reports of examination leakages have continued to be high despite the measures the teacher unions have put in place to curb the vice.

He says as a union they will not defend any teacher found engaging in exam malpractices as it is a criminal offence which requires the law to take its course.

Mr. Zulu has also appealed to the pupils to desist from cheating during exams stating that they may have problems in future especially during tertiary education.
