Senanga United Party for National Development (UPND) Member of Parliament Likando Mufalali says engaging more Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in national budget tracking and implementation will significantly enhance accountability of national resources.

Mr. Mufalali has told QFM News in an interview that the engagement of CSOs in tracking the national budget implementation in communities is critical to fostering meaningful economic development.

Mr. Mufalali also notes that there is need to involve the poor in communities so that they effectively monitor the use of their resources if they know what has been allocated to them.

Mr. Mufalali, who is also UPND Youth Chairman, says without a deliberate effort to engage the poor and marginalised in society in budget tracking, the poor will remain sidelined with no platform for engagement.

He adds that local communities have an important role to play in the budgeting process at various levels and in tracking the use of resources allocated for them in the budget, but they can only do so if they have platforms for expressing views.

Mr. Mufalali says its undisputable fact that Zambia needs a proper tool that will make government officials and other key officials account for public resources.
