The United Party for National Development (UPND) says President Michael Sata’s threats against Konkola Copper Mines over its planned job cuts have the potential to scare away investors.

Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) plans to lay off more than 1,500 workers.

UPND Secretary General Winston Chibwe has told QFM News in an interview that the President’s threats can erode investor confidence in the country.

He says President Sata should handle such national matters cautiously.

Mr. Chibwe says KCM have their own reasons as to why they intended to lay off over 1,500 workers.

He says government should have instead engaged the mining firm and find an amicable solution.
