7 charged in ex-MP Chella’s murder

SEVEN people including a 63-year-old woman jointly charged with the murder of former Wusakili member of Parliament Barnabas Chella have appeared in the Kitwe Magistrate’s Court for explanation of the charge.

This is a case in which Frederick Mulusa, 25, Robby Mwewa, 55, Joyce Mwansa, Eric Mendulo, 46, Samson Chisala, 51, Kenneth Chisanga, 37, and Derrick Kalunga, 32, are charged with murder.
The offence is contrary to Section 200 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
The seven accused persons appeared before principal resident magistrate Penjani Lamba on Wednesday.
Particulars of the offence are that Mulusa, Mwewa, Mwansa, Mendulo, Chisala, Chisanga and Kalunga on September 5, 2013 in Kitwe, jointly and whilst acting together murdered Mr Chella.
Mrs Lamba read and explained the charge to the seven accused persons when they appeared before her.
She adjourned the case to October 16, 2013 for mention as the State awaits instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
