LIVINGSTONE City Council (LCC) has conferred President Michael Sata with the honour of the Freeman of the City.

Mr Sata’s vision and dedication to transforming Livingstone ahead of the August hosting of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly and various developmental projects taking root in the city won him the accolade.
MMD councillor Fennix Liandisha moved the motion to confer Mr Sata with the status of the Freeman of the City during a full council meeting on Monday.
In moving the motion, Mr Liandisha said the President had prioritised development of the tourist capital since coming into office.
“My motion has since been ignited by the great commitment to which development in the city has been executed.
“The hosting of the UNWTO General Assembly could not have been granted if the Head of State did not commit himself to this noble cause,” he said.
Mr Liandisha’s motion was unanimously adopted.
During the meeting, Town Clerk Vivian Chikoti said the local authority was mandated under the Local Government Act Cap 281 of the Laws of Zambia to admit the status of honorary Freeman of the City.
This status is conferred on persons of distinction who had rendered eminent services to a city.
