The Islamic Supreme Council of Zambia (ISCoZ) has hailed government’s move to consult the church, Islamic Supreme Council of Zambia and other stakeholders before granting a broadcast license to a radio station to be broadcasting Islamic religious programs.

ISCoZ President, Suzyo Zimba, says the only way to come up with a good decision is through consultation and government’s move to consult the relevant stakeholders before issuing a broadcasting license for the radio station is welcome.

Mr. Zimba says it is not always the case that when you apply for such a license you are granted the license there and then but that it takes time.

He says it is unfortunate that the people who applied for the license did not even consult the Islamic mother body for advice on how best to go about it.

And ISCoZ Secretary General Sheikh Phiri says the Islamic Supreme Council of Zambia is mandated to handle all Islamic related issues in the country and if people cannot consult them on matters that are of great importance for them then things will not go well for them.

Mr. Phiri says government has done a recommendable job by seeking to consult with the Islamic council of Zambia before granting the radio license.
