The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has appealed to President Michael Sata to state clearly his position on the current debates surrounding his endorsement to be sole candidate for the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) in the 2016 general elections.

SACCORD is of the view that if President Sata states clearly his position on the ongoing debates, it will help ease the tensions that such pronouncements of his endorsement are causing in the ruling party.

SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe notes that the President’s clear position on this matter will also give guidance to the nation on how the issue of endorsement should be debated in the country without causing eruptions of violence.

Mr. Cheembe notes that the violence that is taking place among PF members is as a result of people not knowing whether the debate on the endorsement of Mr. Sata should be done or not.

Mr. Cheembe however observes that the violence aspect of the ongoing debate on the issue of endorsement of Mr. Sata has the potential of painting a wrong picture about Zambia to the international community, as country that is failing to handle its governance affairs.

Mr. Cheembe was speaking to Qfm in an interview.
