Prisoners need more money – PRISCCA

The Prisons Care and Counseling Association (PRISCCA) has appealed to the Patriotic Front (PF) government to consider increasing the budgetary allocation to prisoners in the 2014 National Budget.

PRISCCA Executive Director, Godfrey Malembeka, says prisoners lack a lot of things hence the need for government to seriously consider increasing budgetary allocation during next year’s national budget.

Mr. Malembeka says there is also need for parliamentarians to champion for prisoners’ rights.

He states that parliamentarians should demonstrate to the nation who put them in that office and extend a hand to incarcerated people.

Mr. Malembeka notes that it is rare that a Member of Parliament will make a donation to any prison in the country and yet they want people’s confidence.

Mr. Malembeka has since appealed to MPs to consider donating to prisons as a way of helping incarcerated people who lack quality meals.
