PATRIOTIC Front (PF) youths in Central Province say there is no need for party members to endorse President Sata as the sole candidate in the 2016 presidential elections because it is a well known fact that he will stand.
Party members in Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western provinces have endorsed President Sata as the sole candidate in the 2016 elections.
But Central Province PF youth chairperson Jeliaty Tembwa said in an interview yesterday that PF members endorsing President Sata have their timing wrong.
“We already have the party president, we have the Republican President, what are they endorsing? It is a sheer waste of time for them to say they have endorsed President Sata for the 2016 presidential elections,” Mr Tembwa said.
Mr Tembwa said according to the Constitution, President Sata qualifies to stand for another five-year term of office and wondered why some PF members have been announcing his endorsement.
He said PF members who are busy endorsing the President should instead be working hard to help the PF government fulfil the pledges it made prior to the 2011 general elections.
“President Sata is there for us, there is no competition for leadership in the party. Announcing endorsements is wrong, it is a wrong time for such,” he said.
Mr Tembwa said the people of Zambia trusted the PF leadership and voted the party into power and urged party members to start working hard to ensure Government delivers development.
He said the youth leadership in Central Province is not sitting idle and will remind PF leaders in Government about their responsibility to deliver development to people.
