CHAMPIONSHIP Boxing and Fitness (CBF) has partnered with the Zambia Judo Association (ZJA) to help prepare Esther Sandu and Mathews Punza for this monthend’s World Championship in Brazil.
CBF director Ruthie Alekseyev said at a briefing in Lusaka yesterday that Sandu and Punza will use the state of the art equipment during preparations.
Alekseyev said CBF will assist ZJA with finances when need arise.
The World Championships will be held from August 26 to September 1 in Rio de Janeiro.
“CBF which also trains World Professional Boxing Federation bantamweight champion Catherine Phiri is happy to announce the coming on board of judokas Sandu and Punza. Our gym is run by highly qualified personnel who will adequately prepare the judokas,” Alekseyev said.
And ZJA president Alfred Foloko commended CBF for the gesture.
Foloko urged Sandu and Punza to take advantage of the gymnasium by working on their endurance.
He said ZJA has a budget of K130, 000 to send two judokas, a coach and an official to Brazil.
He said the association has not raised any funds for the outing and it has engaged the Ministry of Youth and Sport for assistance.
Meanwhile, Sandu said she will do her best in Brazil so that she earns points for the 2016 Olympics slated for Rio de Janeiro.
Punza said he was prepared for the championship.
