Speeding motor vehicle kills two school boys

Solwezi, July 17, ZANIS —–Two boys died on the spot yesterday after they were hit by a vehicle along Solwezi-Chingola road.

NorthWestern Province Police Commissioner, Eugene Sibote who confirmed the incident to ZANIS in Solwezi today said the accident happened around 13:00 hours and identified the two deceased as Albert Kashamba and Amos Lumbwe both aged eight.

Mr Sibote said Kashamba, a grade one and Lumbwe, a grade two pupil at Kifubwa basic school met their fate when Elias Chipampe, 47, the driver of a Nissan cerena registration number 4869 hit them after the vehicle lost control due to over speeding.

He said Chipampe an employee of Barrick Lumwana mine who was heading to Chingola bashed the two boys who were coming back from school after the vehicle he was driving lost control due to over speeding.

Mr Sibote said the bodies of the deceased boys are in Solwezi General Hospital mortuary while Chipampe is in police custody awaiting to appear in court soon.

He described the loss of two innocent lives as regrettable and advised motorists to drive with caution and bear in mind other road users such as pedestrians and cyclists to avoid accidents.
