Mongu District Commissioner Maurice Litula has appealed to farmers with Maize and Rice in the district to exercise patience as the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) will buy their produce this marketing season.

Mr Litula called on farmers not to give in to briefcase business people that have currently invaded some parts of the province saying FRA will in due course begin to purchase Maize and Rice in Mongu district.

Speaking when he officiated at the launch of the district FRA deport supervisors orientation workshop, Mr Litula disclosed that FRA will operate in 12 depots in the district this year.

He named the depots as Nalwei, Imalyo, Litawa, Nakanya, Ndanda, Kabahill, Kate, Nangili, Ushaa, Sikusi, Simulumbe and Lwandui respectively.

Mr Litula lamented that last marketing season, the agency operated from one deport and managed to purchase about 454 bags of maize.

The District Commissioner however noted that Mongu district experienced a lean harvest due to a mini drought and floods that affected the harvest.

He urged FRA to quickly move in and start buying from farmers to allow them be to able to purchase farming inputs for the next farming season.
