Veep Scott arrives in Maseru

Vice President Guy Scott has arrived in Lesotho to join other heads of state and government and the local people in celebrating the 50th birthday anniversary of King Letsie III of this country tomorrow, July 17, 2013.

Dr. Scott’s chartered plane landed at Moshoeshoe 1 International Airport in Maseru at 16:08 hours Zambian time.

He was welcomed by Lesotho deputy Prime Minister Mothejao Metsing and Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa, who also oversees Lesotho, Muyeba Chikonde and other officials.

This evening, Dr. Scott is expected to meet Zambians resident in Lesotho before attending King Letsie’s 50th birthday anniversary at Setsoto stadium in Maseru tomorrow.

Dr. Scott is expected to return home on Thursday, July 18th 2013.

President Seretse Khama Ian Khama of Botswana, Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe, his Namibian counterpart, Hifikepunye Pohamba and King Mswati III of Swaziland are the heads of state and government that will attend the birthday celebrations tomorrow.

Malawi has sent the vice president, Khumbo Kachali while Angola will be represented by the Minister of External Relations.

King Letsie III, the first son of the late King Moshoeshoe II, was born on 17th July 1963 and ascended to the throne in 1996.

The Basotho people in Maseru are already in the mood of celebrating their King’s birthday and a number of them were today seen clad in traditional attires.
