Lundazi farmer killed in Ox- cart accident
Lundazi, July 12, 2013, ZANIS — A Twelve year old boy died on spot while five other family members sustained body injuries after an overloaded oxcart they were on overturned killing one juvenile injuring others.
ZANIS reports that Eastern Province Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila disclosed the development in an interview in Lundazi yesterday.
Ms. Chipalila identified the deceased boy as John Nyirenda aged 12 of Siliya village, chief Zumwanda, Lundazi district.
The fatal accident happened on 9th July 2013 some few kilometers away from Lundazi-Chipata road when the father to the late John Nyirenda and other family members went to harvest maize from their nearby maize field.
After harvesting maize, the produce was loaded onto the cart , after which some family members decided to sit on top of the oxcart.
While on the way they started whipping oxens to speed up , however in the process oxcart hit a stone which made one of the wheels to come out and overturned killing Nyirenda on the spot.
Ms. Chipalila said Zelu Nyirenda sustained a broken color born while five other family members just sustained minor body injuries and were admitted at Lumezi mission hospital before been discharged.
She said Zelu Nyirenda is still admitted nursing a broken color borne while five others were discharged the following day after receiving treatment.
