Poor equipment, lack of skilled personnel worries stakeholders

Kalabo, July 7, ZANIS ——- The District Development Coordinating Committee (DDCC) in Kalabo says huge sums of money involved and simple construction equipment coupled with inadequate personnel at the construction works of the Kalabo District Hospital sewerage pond is a major source of worry.

The DDCC wondered that no proper construction equipment and adequate personnel were being used in the construction works of the sewerage pond as only wheel burrows, shovels and a few casual workers were being used at the site by the Pilkas contractors.

The concern was revealed in the DDCC meeting that was held in Kalabo on Friday chaired by Kalabo District Commissioner Irene Mate which was also attended by Sikongo District Commissioner Kufuka Kufuka.

The DDCC also bemoaned the safety of casual workers that were constructing the sewerage pond who were not even wearing protective gear while carrying-out the construction works.

The DDCC therefore preferred that Pilkas contructors shows seriousness with the construction works by using proper equipment and adequate personnel to avoid shoddy works.

In the DDCC meeting it was revealed that the Kalabo District Hospital sewerage pond is under construction at a cost of K 1 million.
