Third African Netball Championship opens in Malawi

The Third African Netball Championship, to which Zambia is participant, opened in Malawi yesterday with the host country taking the lead against Zimbabwe in the opening game.

 

Eight teams are participating in the four-day tournament, namely Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa, Uganda Zambia and Zimbabwe.

 

The participating teams, in their colourful attire, waved their countries’ flags high before the spectators as the Malawian models paraded the coveted Africa Netball Championship cup at the official opening ceremony graced by Malawi’s Minister of Sports, Youth and Welfare Development, Enock Chihana.

In today’s fixtures, Zambia is expected to face Botswana, while South Africa will play Namibia with Swaziland facing Uganda and the final game is slated for Friday, June 28, 2013.

 

According to the International Netball Federation world ranking, Malawi sits at the fifth position while Zambia is ranked 23.
