Chief Mununga hails govt for its performance based leadership
Chienge, Sunday, 23 June 2013 – ZANIS – Senior Chief Mununga of the Shila people of Luapula Province has praised President Sata for his performance based approach to governance.
The Senior Chief said he was happy with the style of governance by the Patriotic Front Administration because it was result oriented and what the Government was doing was visible for all to see.
He said this when Community Development, Mother and Child Health Minister Dr. Joseph Katema and Luapula Province Minister Brigadier General Benson Kapaya paid a courtesy call on him at his Palace yesterday.
He said he was happy that the PF government has continued to consider poverty alleviation as one of its priorities especially in rural areas where incidences of poverty were high.
The Senior Chief added that the launch of the social cash transfer in Chienge district was a demonstration of Government’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of the poor.
And Community Development Minister Katema said the launch of the programme was government’s commitment to alleviating poverty in the most affected households which could not afford the conventional way of survival for their welfare.
He said the poverty levels in rural areas were high and government wanted to help the most vulnerable households through the social cash transfer because it was a programme intended to help the poor.
He added that there were other programmes through which the people could access the funds for empowerment through the Youth development Fund in the ministry of youth Sports and child development, the Ministry of Gender and his own ministry which were available for people to access.
He added that the officers at district level in his ministry should help the people with the technicalities of filling the forms in order to access the funds.
And Luapula Province Minister Brigadier General Benson Kapaya disclosed that President Sata was ready to meet Luapula Chiefs soon .
He advised the traditional leadership in the area to organise themselves and come up with a position paper for the province which should be representative of their concerns.
He said the meeting with the President which will be arranged soon will accord the Luapula Chiefs an opportunity to meet the President so that he could also explain to them areas of governance that affected them for the general welfare of the their subjects.
