Ex- soldier in court for unlawful possession of firearms

—-The Kasama Magistrates’ court has set July 5, 2013, for ruling in a matter in which a former Zambia Army Officer is charged with unlawful possession of firearms.


This is in a matter in which Trywell Katukuta appeared before Magistrate Kelvin Soma on charges of illegally being in possession of weapons.


Facts before the court were are that between unknown dates this year, Zambia Army Officers conducted a search on Katukuta‘s residence after receiving a tip off from the public.


The team recovered 106 rounds of AK47 ammunitions, two magazines and a bionnet in Katukuta’s house.


The former Northern Division officer was later arrested and charged with unlawful possession of weapons.


Magistrate Soma has since set July 5, 2013 as a date to deliver his ruling.


In a related development, a 26-year-old police officer of Mungwi district has appeared before the Kasama Magistrates’ court on one count of threatening violence.


Before Magistrate Monica Mwamulima was Samusamba Mpasa of Mungwi Police facing one count of threatening violence.


Facts before the court were that on April 12, 2013, Mpasa, who went to the house of Moses Mpundu with the view to arrest him, opened fire with intent to alarm other family members.


Mpundu reported the matter to police who later arrested Mpasa.


The prosecution team has since applied for adjournment and trial commences on July 30, 2013
