It’s ‘our’ collective responsibility to dispose of dead pets-LCC

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has reminded residents of the collective responsibility between the local authority and members of the public to pick and dispose of pets that are killed by motorist on roads in the city.

LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager Mulunda Habeenzu said although it was the core mandate of the council to pick dead pets, members of the public can also supplement its efforts.

ZANIS Reports that Mr. Habeenzu’s remarks follow complaints from members of the public on who was responsible to pick dead pets lying in various streets of the city.

He has since called on Lusaka residents to immediately report all pets that are run over by vehicles in the city to the LCC’s Public Health Department on the Zamtel toll free line which is 5995.

Mr. Habeenzu has meanwhile cautioned pet owners to safeguard their animals and not let them move recklessly around the streets.

He said loitering pets were a great danger to members of the public.

He further warned members of the public not to keep pets if they cannot look after them saying the council will move in and kill dogs and cats that may be considered stray animals.

Mr. Habeenzu also appealed to motorists to play an active role in ensuring that they avoid unnecessary killing of pets.
