Two drown in Solwezi

TWO men in Solwezi in North-Western Province on Sunday drowned in the Solwezi River during a swimming exercise.
North-Western Province division criminal investigations officer Rodrick Chikuwe confirmed that the incident happened around at 15:00 hours on Sunday.
Mr Chikuwe said the duo aged 24 and 25 were identified as Gerald Kizume and Emmanuel Tongatonga, both  of  Kandemba Township.
Mr Chikuwe said upon realising that his friend was drowning, Mr Kizume jumped into the river with the view of rescuing him but in the process he also drowned.
The two were from Kasempa district but had gone to Solwezi to do part-time jobs of moulding bricks near Solwezi River.
Mr Kizume’s body has since been retrieved and is lying in the Solwezi  General Hospital mortuary, while that of  Mr Tongatonga has not yet been found.
