HAZ scouts for KR 470, 000 for continental Brazzaville  junior championship

Lusaka, June 18th,  2013, ZANIS—The Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) is scouting for KR470, 000 to send the girls team to the African Junior Championship tournament  slated for Congo Brazzaville in august this year.

And the Association’s president Victor Bwalya Banda has been appointed as commissioner for Arbitration committee under the Confederation of African Handball (CAB).

HAZ Marketing and communications manager Josab Changa has since appealed to government and the corporate world to assist his association in raising the much required funds.

Changa says  the Congo Brazzaville tourney is important as it will not only impart new skills to the local players but also put Zambia on the world map in terms of the sport handball.

ZANIS Sports reports that the HAZ  Marketing and communications manager said this in a telephone interview in Lusaka today.

Changa also called on the hospitality industry to assist the teams with camping sites and any other logistical requirements.

He  further said that the preparations for the Congo Brazzaville tourney are progressing and that the players are responding well to training.

A 25 member Zambian Handball Girls team comprising of 18 players and 7 officials is expected to participate at the Congo Brazzaville African tournament that will run from the 21st to the 31st of august this year.

The four top teams from the Congo Brazzaville tournament will automatically qualify to the Olympics tournament to be held in Nanjin in China and the world junior championship to be held in Qatar next year.

Changa expressed hope that the friendly match that the junior team will play against Zimbabwe next month at the Olympic Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka will put the team in good shape to aim at qualifying to both tournaments.

Meanwhile, the Association’s president Victor Bwalya Banda has been appointed as commissioner for Arbitration committee under the Confederation of African Handball (CAB).

The appointment of Bwalya has since cheered the executive members of the Handball Association of Zambia and all the handball lovers in the country.

HAZ Marketing and communications manager Josab Changa disclosed to ZANIS Sports saying the appointment of Bwalya has come at the right time when the association is slowly revamping the sport handball in the country.

He added that Bwalya’s appointment is also the recognition of his hard work of ensuring that Zambia is put on the world map in terms of the sport handball.
