Six in court for aggravated robbery
Chipata, June 12, 2013, ZANIS…. Six people have appeared
in the Chipata Magistrates court charged with being in possession
of fire arms and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Before Magistrate, Pauline Mulenga, were Peter Chavula, Kennedy
Muyamba and John Phiri.

 

Others who appeared in the same matter were Gideon Mukwaya,

Feston Botolo  and Ackson Phiri.

Facts before the court were that the six were found with four
pistols and several rounds of ammunition which they allegedly wanted
to use to commit a felony contrary to the laws of Zambia.

Particulars are that on 24 May, 2012, the six suspects jointly and
whilst acting together allegedly planned to steal from a Zambian of
Asian origin in Chipata.

The court heard that Police quickly swung into action after a tip-off from members of the
public and apprehended the four suspects at Kapata bus station while two
others were apprehended in Mchini and David Kaunda residential areas
respectively.

The court heard that Ackson Phiri who is a former worker of the named
Zambian of Asian origin had allegedly informed Feston Botolo that he
knew where his former boss kept money in his house.

It was at this point that the two allegedly started planning how to
steal the money and Botolo was alleged to have contacted his four
friends from Lusaka who had come with the guns for use in the robbery.

The six who are remanded in custody, pleaded not guilty to the charge
and trial continues.
