15 Mpulungu fishermen feared dead

Mpulungu, June 12, 2013, ZANIS—About fifteen Zambian fishermen have gone missing on Lake Tanganyika in Mpulungu after their boat encountered rough waters on Monday.

Relatives of the missing people have confirmed the incident to ZANIS in Mpulungu district.

They said the fishermen went fishing on Monday but did not return the following day after the accident.

Three members of the crew have however survived the accident.

Police sources also confirmed the accident and some officers have since been sent on the Lake to carry out investigations.

Sources said the accident happened around Kapembwa village when the fishing vessel encountered strong winds.

Meanwhile, three houses have been gutted by fire in Kabatwe village in Mpulungu district.

This incident happened after one of the fish traders was smoking fish which later ignited fire to gut three houses in the area due to strong winds .

ZANIS reports that household items worth thousands of rebased kwacha were burnt to ashes.

Police in Mpulungu have confirmed the development.
