Disburse youth fund, minister tells officers

Mongu, June 6, 2013,ZANIS———Sports and Youth deputy minister Chinga Miyutu has directed western province youth coordinator to expedite the process of disbursing the youth development fund in the area.

Speaking in Mongu when he paid a courtesy on western province youth coordinator Azele Mbewe, Mr Miyutu said there is need to quickly approve the application forms submitted by the youths wishing to access the empowerment fund.

He cited Northern and Lusaka provinces as being among those that have already done the desk and field appraisal.

Mr Miyutu advised the provincial coordinator to emulate the two provinces and ensure that the desk and field appraisal are done within a record time.

The deputy minister further urged the provincial coordinator to visit the districts and carry out desk and fields appraisals  rather than waiting for districts to submit the application forms to the province as the move will help save on time.

Meanwhile, the deputy minister implored Mr Mbewe to encourage the youths in the province to apply for the youth development fund.

Mr Miyutu was saddened to learn that only a few youths in the province have applied for the youth development fund.

The deputy minister said there is need for the provincial office to go flat-out in the 16 districts and encourage youths to access the empowerment funds.

And western province coordinator Azele Mbewe disclosed to the deputy minister that government has released funds for carrying out monitoring and evaluation for the youth development fund projects.

Mr Mbewe assured the deputy minister that the provincial youth development fund committee will soon meet to do the desk and field appraisal for the youth project.
