THE Zambia Boxing Federation ZABF is scouting for funds to send a team of boxers to the Zone four Africa games to be staged in Botswana next month.

The tournament that is used to rate countries in terms of their success in the sport has attracted 11 participants with seven more countries yet to confirm participation.

Zambia had failed to participate in the three editions of the championships due to lack of funds.

ZABF president Thomas Chileshe said in an interview that the Zone four organizers wanted Zambia to attend owing to the team’s performances during the Zone six games hosted in Lusaka recently where boxers minted most of the medals the country won at the event.

“We are appealing to the business world and well-wishers to help us send the boys to Botswana, because next year will be the common wealthy games and then there is All-Africa games later, so we need to gauge our boxers by tournaments such as these, plus it will be good if the country gets a good rating,” Chileshe said.

He said his executive had also informed the ministry and the National Sports Council of Zambia and awaiting response.
