Chipata Municipal council commences installation of new traffic lights

 

Chipata, May 27, 2013, ZANIS  —  The Chipata Municipal council has commenced installation of new traffic lights at a total cost of KR288, 000.

 

Public Relations officer Taonga Kaonga said the installation of new traffic lights was meant to upgrade the system which could address the increase in the flow of traffic in town.

 

ZANIS reports that Ms Kaonga confirmed the development in an interview in Chipata district today.

 

The Chipata Municipal council Public Relations officer said  that works had commenced at the central town junction along umodzi high way.

 

She said the Council had contracted Stanley Trading Solution to install the new system called LED which has a life span of 50 years adding that the financial support was from the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA).

 

She said also stated that the district had recorded an increase in the number of road traffic accidents hence the need up traffic lights to curb accidents.

 

“The old traffic lights were inadequate to manage the growing motor traffic in the town”, she said.

 

She has however called road users and the general public to ensure that the traffic lights were safe guarded and protected so that they could be utilized for a long period.

 

And Director of engineering Andrew Zulu said the council would spend over KR5000 towards the installation of street lights in some township roads in Chipata district.

 

Mr Zulu named presidential and Kalindawalo road in Kalongwezi Township, Omelo Mumba and Kafula in Kapata as some of the roads that would be worked on.

 

He said that the local authority had decided to select roads that had a record of residents been beaten due to darkness along the streets.
