Over 280 patients have been screened and treated for various diseases under the mobile hospital services which took place yesterday in Shiwang’ndu district of Muchinga Province.

Speaking to ZANIS in an interview, Mobile hospitals and emergency services team leader for Muchinga and Northern Provinces, Stephen Phiri, said 18 operations have since been conducted from the health facility from the time it was brought to the district on Monday.

Dr Phiri described the response from the general public as overwhelming, adding that his team of 24 health providers was working round the clock to ensure that all clients and patients are attended to within the shortest possible time.

He said the facility is conducting all operations apart from neurological and urological operations because of the unavailability of specialists in the stated fields.

The team leader said the mobile hospital services are a relief to the people of Zambia as they are bringing health services closer to the people’s door steps, which is the motto of the mobile hospital and emergency services in Zambia.

Dr Phiri said the health facilities are beneficial to the public, adding that most of the rural areas lack certain equipment and are under staffed.

He appealed to residents in both Shiwang’andu and Chinsali district to take advantage of the mobile hospitals presence in the area.

Dr Phiri pointed out that some of the services that are being provided include x-ray, Male Circumcision (MC), Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) and dental services among others.

In a related development scores of people in Chinsali district have trooped in at the district community medical hospital to have their eyes checked following the free services being offered by specialists from the Copperbelt.

District Medical Officer, Kaminu Kabongo, said the turnout is encouraging, adding that experts will conduct operations after screening the patients.

Dr Kabongo added that there is need to continue with the publicity using all forms of media so that as many people as possible are attended to during this period.
