Rural women organizations to be financial empowered

Solwezi, May 10, ZANIS ——- Gender and Child Development Deputy Minister, Josephine Limata has reaffirmed government’s commitment to empowering women organizations in rural areas with finances for self sustenance.

Ms Limata said government has realized that most women organizations in rural areas have no capacity to access loans hence it has seen it fit to finance them.

She said this in Solwezi this afternoon when she called on North-Western province Minister, Nathaniel Mubukwanu at his office.

Ms Limata said her ministry has been working in partnership with other line ministries to ensure that women and youths in the country are empowered.

She said she will also be sensitizing the communities against early marriages of young girls which is a high practice among communities in rural areas.

Meanwhile, Mr Mubukwanu has condemned the gender insensitivity manifesting by some people in the country concerning the existence of male mid-wives in health institutions.

He said the existence of male mid-wives is a clear indication of the attainment of gender balance in the country and must be supported.

Ms Limata is on a four days tour of Solwezi district to present 16 cheques to women groups in six chiefdoms.
