Kabompo police to impound overloading trucks

Kabompo, May 3, ZANIS ——Police in Kabompo have intensified patrols aimed at impounding overloaded trucks in a bid to avoid fatal road accidents in the district.

Kabompo district Zambia Police Officer-In-Charge, Christopher Jinungo told ZANIS in Kabompo yesterday that police will not hesitate to impound trucks on the road found overloaded with goods and people on board because it is against the law.

Mr Jinungo said police in the district are concerned about trucks coming into the district from Lukulu, Zambezi and Chavuma which are often overloaded with bundles of fish with people on top of bundles.

Yesterday, police impounded a canter truck registration number ACV 165 overloaded with bags of fish with passengers some of them women with babies on their backs.

On Monday this week, a woman,  identified as Idah Mbewe Chewe in her twenties died when a canter truck registration number ACT 2501 she was travelling in carried off the road and overturned at about 23:00 hours at Chitanda on the Mufumbwe –Manyinga road in Manyinga district.
