Govt. assures Zambian of more decent jobs

Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe said the PF government is committed to ensuring that decent jobs are created through increased investment in social and economic infrastructure for social development.

Mr. Munkombwe said jobs are already being created in the province through the many road construction projects.

He has however cautioned contractors engaged by government to construct roads to ensure that only people in the project areas are employed.

He said government will not allow a situation where people are imported from other areas to take up jobs meant for the local people.

The minister said this today when he officiated at the provincial Labour Day celebrations in Choma.

The minister said government was in a hurry to create more decent and sustainable jobs.

He said government will remain committed to comprehensive reforms of the labor laws In order to bring them in line with the labour market dynamics.

Mr. Munkombwe however expressed sadness that as government was trying to improve working conditions of domestic workers by introducing a minimum wage, most employers had failed to implement the wage.
