Sources close to Prof. Chirwa and some PF insiders say the man made a fatal mistake by denying to give some contracts to some of his friends and also his company (ZRL) was competing and putting some of his close friends out of business.

“The first mistake the Professor Chirwa made was when he signed a deal with Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) to be transporting copper to various destinations by rail, as you may know, no one knew Chirwa before he was given a weekly column in the Post newspaper, PF officials such as defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba now own trucks and are involved in the same business of transporting copper from KCM hence the crash in business,” the source said.

According to sources, the deal that prof. Chirwa signed between ZRL and KCM meant cutting off some of his friends.

The Source said Prof Chirwa, now feels betrayed by people who used him to draft what was supposed to be blue print for UPND/PF pact that had given more powers to the PF.

“If you remember Prof. Chirwa was a UPND member during the pact and was the one who was used to persued UPND president Hakainde Hichilema to accept a junior position in the arrangement, hence that document,” sources said.
