Man murders wife in domestic brawl

Police in Central province have arrested a 32 year old man of Fair View compound in Kapiri Mposhi for allegedly murdering of his 36 year old wife.

Police Public Relations Officer Elizabeth Kanjela confirmed to ZANIS in Lusaka today that the incident occurred around 21:00 hours yesterday.

Ms. Kanjela identified the deceased as Mwelwa Mumba while the suspected murderer is Dickson Banda.

She explained that around 13:00 hours yesterday, the couple engaged in a fight after a misunderstanding where the deceased reported an assault case to the police and was issued with a medical report form.

She said the deceased was later reported to have died.

Ms. Kanjela said the suspect is in police custody to assist with investigations while the body of the deceased is lying in Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

And in a similar incident, Police in Muchinga has launched a manhunt for a 29 year old man of Kashimba village for the alleged murder of a 51 year old woman of the same village.

Ms. Kanjela said the suspect is Lime Mumbi who is believed to have killed Tiza Kunda 51, through magic powers.

She said the body of the deceased is lying in Mpika District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

She has since urged members of the public to employ the spirit of dialogue in the face of misunderstandings instead of resorting to violence.
