—–A four-month-old baby of Shingwe village of chief Lubunda’s area in Mwense district has been burned to ashes.

Luapula Province Police Commissioner, Joseph Mutale, confirmed the development in a telephone interview with ZANIS in Mwense today.

He said the incident happened on Sunday around 06:00 hours at Mutanduduba Farms where the mother of the identified baby had gone to weed her cassava fields.

The police commissioner added that Kasanda Chibwe 32, the mother of the deceased, left the baby asleep in the make shift shelter few metres away from the cassava fields.

Mr Mutale, who could not explain the source of the fire, said the shelter caught fire and burnt the baby to ashes instantly.

He further said Mrs Chibwe sustained some serious burns on her legs as
she attempted to rescue her baby from the infernal.

Mrs Chibwe has since been admitted to Mwense Rural Health Centre while the deceased has since been buried.
