———Government has released a total of KR500 million for the installation of street lights in Chinsali District of Muchinga Province.

Chinsali Municipal Council Town Clerk Patrick Kambita confirmed the development to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chinsali today.

Mr. Kambita said the contractor WECAW is already on site and is expected to commence works of installing street lights in two days time.

He said the council has opted to install solar panel street lights to mitigate the continuous power outages and low voltages currently being experienced in the District.

Mr. Kambita said once the project is completed the streets lights will light up Chinsali town and provide security to residents moving at night specially those moving along the Hospital road in times when there is no power.

He disclosed that the full set of solar panels and fittings purchased from China arrived in the District yesterday.

The Town Clerk said the street lights will be installed on a stretch covering 500 meters from Chinsali District Community Hospital up to the Chinsali old market.

Mr. Kambita said the project is expected to be completed by this month end.

In another development, construction works at the new Chinsali local court building have been completed.

A Lusaka based Justrays Construction Limited supervisor Salatiel Banda said all the major works have been done and the building is set to be handed over later today.

Mr. Banda said the construction works which started in September last year were delayed due to erratic funding by the government.
