–A critical water crisis has persisted in Mtendere Township in Lusaka for one week now.

And residents in the township have threatened to demonstrate over the matter to force higher authorities to intervene in the issue.

Speaking to ZANIS in a walk in interview, in Lusaka today, Clement Chainda, a Resident Development Committee member in the township, said efforts have been made to the LWSC but no results have been yielded so far.

Mr Chainda said many residents in Mtendere A, B, C and D areas have been facing water crisis for the past one week now, a thing he said was making life extremely difficult for them.

He said an urgent measure should be done, adding that the people of Mtendere have been facing water blues for so many years without LWSC finding a lasting situation.

“We have been hit with water crisis for so many years in Mtendere without LWSC coming to our aid. We have gone to their offices to seek audience with them but all the assurances have not yielded any positive results,” Mr Chainda said.

Mr said a lasting solution to the problems should be immediately found before residents demonstrate over non-availability of the commodity.

Just two weeks ago, a severe water shortage hit the township without Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWASC) intervening to solve the crisis.

And to get a comment from LWSC, Topsy Siakalinda ,proved futile by press time.
